Natus Vincere’s Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev has received a week-long ban on Twitch. The reason is him tossing a homophobic slur in Russian during one of his streams. According to journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau, s1mple dropped the slur as a joke to his teammate Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov.
In Russian, “пидар” or “пидер” (pidar/pidor/pider) is the equivalent of the “f-word”, so it makes sense that Twitch admins are not allowing it to stand even as a joke, giving s1mple the ban. It’s not like this will damage s1mple’s brand or stream presence too much, however — in one week, the arguably best CS:GO player will be back in action, competing at the StarLadder Major with Natus Vincere, and a week off Twitch might even be a much needed rest for prep.
Because NaVi will need s1mple to be at his very best, and even beyond that. Despite coming to Berlin with a Legends status, NaVi have not had a good year. With the exception of StarSeries 7, the CIS roster hasn’t had any other grand final appearances and have generally had a tough 2019. With teams like Team Liquid coming in as a the outstanding favorites, NaVi will have to bring it up several notches if they’re to contest the StarLadder Major gold.
