Two incredible four protect one strategy games from Sparking Arrow Gaming (SAG) caught PSG.LGD off guard in the Beyond Epic: China playoffs and eliminated them in the fourth place.
Regarded as the underdogs, SAG proved everyone wrong, starting with the group stage where they placed first in Group A, ahead of PSG.LGD, CDEC Gaming and Team Aster. They beat PSG.LGD once in the group play and went on repeating that in the playoff lower bracket rounds, proving that their first result wasn’t just a stroke of luck. Game one in the playoffs elimination series started with SAG revealing their Terrorblade carry in the first pick phase of the draft. They’ve built a four protect one strategy around that pick and rolled over PSG.LGD in 25 minutes with a 20 to 6 kill score.
Nonetheless, PSG.LGD fought back hard in the second game, putting pressure from early stages on SAG’s carry player Zhong “圣子华炼/ God King ” Liushuai on Anti-Mage. PSG.LGD’s explosive mid lane start with Lu “Maybe” Yao Monkey King enabled Yang “Chalice”‘ Shenyi’s Ursa as well and allowed their duo core to completely dominate the game. However, headed into the decisive game, SAG reverted to Terrorblade, which they once again picked in the first phase and protected with a support five Legion Commander and a position four Shadow Demon. PSG.LGD went with a lot of team fight control and strong initiation tools to counter the TB, thus the third game was action packed and extremely tense.
PSG.LGD outplayed SAG in key moments, like stopping a Roshan kill to prevent SAG from taking the lead, and fought neck and neck, but past the 30 minute mark, when SAG had Aghanim’s Scepters on Weaver and Storm Spirit, along with a Satanic on TB, the team fights were nearly impossible to win.
While PSG.LGD are now eliminated from Beyond Epic, China division in fourth place, Sparking Arrow Gaming advanced into the lower bracket finals where they will fight tomorrow, June 28 against the losing team of the Vici Gaming versus Royal Never Give Up upper bracket finals
