Beyond Epic: Europe & CIS came to an end today as the lower bracket finals were followed by the grand finals, with no real surprise as to who took all the spoils at the end of the day.

Opening the day earlier today at Beyond Epic: EU & CIS we saw Team Secret and Team Liquid going head-to-head in the lower bracket final, with the winner making their way into the grand finals to face Team Nigma. Having been the ones to knock Secret down into the lower bracket, Liquid would be looking for a repeat performance, but that was not to be the case at all. Game one was over in only half an hour, with Liquid only able to muster up a total of three kills and it never got much better in the next game as they dropped a second and went down 0-2, leaving Secret to another grand final showing.

The grand final between these two amazing squads was exactly what we have come to expect, with Divine Rapiers, extremely long team fights, even longer games, and pure carnage. Having won their previous five online EU/CIS events with 3-0 victories, it was up to Nigma to shut down the Secret train. Although they had a 10,000 net worth lead in game one, Nigma were unable to convert that into a high ground advantage and as the game progressed, Secret turned the game around and claimed the win. What came next was a bloodbath as both teams slugged it out in a back-and-forth for 75-minutes, before an Ultra-Kill from Ludwig ‘zai’ Wåhlberg’s Queen of Pain sealed the second win for Secret.

Although Nigma had played their hearts out, there just seemed to be no stopping Secret when it came to grand finals and at the head of the pack this time was Lasse ‘MATUMBAMAN’ Urpalainen’s Ursa, which ended at 20-2-11, securing another 3-0 victory for Secret.

Secret have now won the last six Online tournaments which they have participated in, all with 3-0 flawless scorelines in the grand final:

  • WePlay! Pushka League Season 1: Division 1
  • Gamers Without Borders 2020
  • OGA Dota PIT 2020 Online: Europe/CIS
  • ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: EU & CIS
  • Blast Bounty Hunt
  • Beyond Epic: EU & CIS

For Nigma, the second-place finish is a step in the right direction, as they still struggle to find their footing at times – but the question is, can anyone really challenge Team Secret?
