Seoul Dynasty is looking to grab a couple of wins to secure their place as a top three team when the first stage of the Overwatch League concludes this Saturday. The Three top teams from Stage 1 will take part in a playoff where the second and third place teams square off for the chance to play the number one overall team from the stage to determine the Stage 1 Champions and win $125,000.
Last week, the Dynasty could have helped themselves, but looked a little lost as the London Spitfire shot them down with a 0-4 loss. However, the team bounced back with a hard-fought 3-2 over the Houston Outlaws to get their record to a respectable 6-2 and a chance to make the playoffs.
Coming up this week, the Dynasty will take on the two teams that kicked off the inaugural season of the Overwatch League–the Los Angeles Valiant and San Fransisco Shock.
The match against the Valiant will be the most pivotal match of the day for both these teams. The Valiant are 5-3 and need to beat the Dynasty and their next opponent, Shanghai Dragons, in order to have a chance at making the playoffs.
The Shock, with no chance of making the playoffs with their 3-5 record, can only play the spoiler role at this point and have been subpar lately with a 1-3 record the past two weeks.
Picked by many to be one of the top teams in the OWL, Seoul has so far lived up to the hype losing only to the Spitfire and New York Excelsior who both sit on 7-1 records.
If the Dynasty get two wins and make the top three, they will secure a spot in the Stage 1 championship bracket. The stage playoff bracket doesn’t count towards the regular season standings. The winner of the stage nets a $100,000 bonus, with second awarded $25,000. Finish third and you get a nice parting gift of a handshake.
On Saturday, Feb. 10, the playoffs will commence consisting of two additional matches played immediately following the last match of the stage. The semifinal will be played on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 5:00pm with the finals immediately following at 7:00pm (all times PST).
