Epic Games has revealed a big step for its company and creators wanting to make use of the Unreal Engine and more. The Epic Games Store.

The store will give developers the tools necessary to create and publish their own titles with a fantastic revenue share, competing directly with what Steam, another giant in the space has to offer.

Epic provided a brief description of how their revenue share will work and provided a graph as well.

Developers receive 88% of revenue. There are no tiers or thresholds. Epic takes 12%. And if you’re using Unreal Engine, Epic will cover the 5% engine royalty for sales on the Epic Games store, out of Epic’s 12%.”

The graph compares the revenue splits between using the Unreal Engine or Unity on Steam vs. Epic Games Store and shows a 23% better share for UE4 on Epic Games and 18% for Unity on Epics store vs. Steams.

The store will provide a couple of other tools enabling creators to keep in touch with their players, other creators, control their game pages, and more.

In addition, developers will be able to other Engines on the platform. “The Epic Games store is open to games built with any engine, and the first releases span Unreal, Unity and internal engines.”

More is teased at the bottom of the post where Epic states that “details on upcoming game releases will be revealed at The Game Awards this Thursday, December 6th.”
