EDward Gaming pulled out a 3-1 victory over Suning to move to the quarterfinals of LPL Summer. This is already an improvement to their performance from the Spring Split, where EDG were upset 3-0 by SinoDragon, finishing the season with 0 points to their name.

Suning were the ones to draw first blood in the series, with Han “Smlz” Jin playing an outstanding Xayah. But with game 2, EDG came online and dominated Suning in the next three games.

In all three games, EDG put their focus almost exclusively on the bot lane, shutting down Smlz’s Xayah over and over again. Lim “Jinoo” Jin-woo gradually became the MVP of the match for EDG, the highlight being a 5/1/4 Gangplank in game 3. Hu “iBoy” Xian-Zhao also made close to no mistakes in the last three games, finishing with a combined 19/1/14 stat for 33.0 KDA.

EDward Gaming now move to play Bilibili Gaming in the quarterfinals, where the winner will advance to face regular season winners FunPlus Phoenix. Despite coming in as the lower seed, EDG showed they can play a slow, methodical game and that they’ve fixed the myriad of jungler problems that plagued them in the Spring Split. This makes the jungle match-up between Zhao “Jiejie” Li-Jie and Zeng “Meteor” Guo-Hao one of the focal points for this quarterfinal.

BLG vs. EDG will be played tomorrow, August 24, at 11:00 CET.
