Top Esports will join FunPlus Phoenix in the Mid-Season Cup playoffs after a dominant showing against T1 in the final match of Group A. Both team entered the face-off at 1-1, making for a do-or-die scenario that Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and co could not survive.

T1 had a good early game as bot lane pressure got Park “Teddy” Jin-seong’s Yasuo comfortably ahead. As the match progressed, however, T1 struggled to catch Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo’s Ezreal, who grew bigger, scarier and more durable every minute.

T1’s victories on the Rift that game were few. A catch on Bai “369” Jia-Hao and Hung “Karsa” Hao-Hsuan opened the first Baron for the Korean side, but little came out of that push. TES continued to be stronger in direct team fights and the difference showed even more once the Chinese took the second Baron — a game-ending objective for the LPL runner-ups.

The results of Group A mean that half of LCK’s teams are now eliminated from the Mid-Season Cup. Tomorrow, DragonX and Gen.G will try to even the scales as they go against Invictus Gaming and JD Gaming in Group B. The winner of that group will play TES, while the 2nd seed will face FunPlus Phoenix.
