Did you miss anything from the last week in esports? Swamped with work or school? Enjoyed sun and beaches instead of staying on the internet 24/7? VPEsports’ Stories from the Week brings you all the biggest headlines you might have missed.

Team Spirit disbands

It’s been a tough year for CIS org Team Spirit as it’s been struggling to find stability. At the start of the year, the org dropped their Dota 2 roster after the departure of fng. In May, it picked up the roster of Old But God, but after failing to qualify for TI9, Team Secret called disbandment once more.

RFRSH completes the sale of Astralis

The anticipated split between Counter-Strike’s Astralis, League of Legends Origen, and RFRSH Entertainment will be completed next week, reports say. This, in theory, should separate the teams from RFRSH’s esports tournaments vertical — something that attracted plenty of negative feedback from the CS:GO community. The sale was said to be between $11.1-11.6M.

Stewie2K to break $1M in earnings

The most successful North American CS:GO player, Stewie2k, might break a new milestone by the time the StarLadder Major is over. With $967K in winnings, Stewie2k is just shy of the $1M mark — something he could break if Team Liquid goes to the final of the StarLadder Major. And given Team Liquid’s recent performance, this seems more than likely.

Echo Fox drama thickens

Not a single week goes without more information about the Echo Fox drama that started with some racist emails and ended up with the org out of the LCS. In response to Rick Fox’s interview with Richard Lewis, the investor who made the racist comments, Amit Raizada, spoke to Upcomer about his side of the story, throwing some shade back at Rick Fox and stating that things aren’t at all as they were presented by Fox.

Echo Fox new owner caught in lawsuit

And if that wasn’t enough, there’s drama with the new owners of the Echo Fox LCS slot already. The heir of the Kroenke group, Josh Kroenke, is being sued by Robert Moore — CEO of Sentinels, the company that’s been operating Kroenke’s esports vertical. Moore claims Kroenke did not inform him of the Echo Fox slot purchase and is also seeking majority share in KSE Esports for the things he’s done for Kroenke’s Los Angeles Gladiators OWL franchise.

Teamfight Tactics will be a permanent stay in LoL

If that wasn’t obvious from the great viewership numbers the mod has been getting, TFT will be a permanent stay as a mode in League of Legends. More than that, Riot Games vowed to keep the game updated with every patch, which would put it on the same scale as Summoner’s Rift itself. Currently, the game ranks as the fifth most watched game on Twitch.

Fortnite World Finals breaks records and makes headlines

The Fortnite World Cup Finals generated an almost unprecedented interest in esports from the mainstream media. Apart from breaking the 2.33M viewership peak record, the solos part of the tournament was won by 16-year-old Bugha, who overnight became the top 10 earner in esport and even went on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show. With Season 10, Fortnite also entered a new age for its esports — a brand new seasonal circuit, in search for the next World Champion.
